I think one of the best things I took away from college was that I learned how I learn. I still have a love of math, but I learned how I learn best… Reading. I know that’s not for everyone, but the start of all exploration I do starts with my nose in a book or in a blog post.
So….
I try to make time to read in my daily life, and by proxy learn. In 2023, I read 498 SQL and data-centric blog posts (I don’t count videos, but I do watch some). I read three database related books T-SQL Fundamentals by Itzik Ben-Gan, The Manga Guide to Databases by Mana Takahashi, and Kerberos: The Definitive Guide by Jason Garman. Here’s the people I followed (and how).
I have a just few email lists that I subscribe to. Brent Ozar, Kendra Little’s SQL Comics, Jen Stirrup, and SQL Server Central.
From there, I use RSS feeds with the site Feedly. Here’s who I read last year (in no order at all):
